NYU Professor barred from Twitter access following reports of rejecting a meeting invitation from Elon Musk.

Galloway, a professor at New York University and a podcasting partner of Kara Swisher, expressed his strong displeasure after being prohibited from posting on Twitter. In a recent Threads post on Tuesday, Galloway shared that he had been banned from Twitter (referred to as "X") just two days after he allegedly turned down an invitation to meet with the CEO of Twitter.
In the Threads post, Galloway conveyed that he had been locked out of his Twitter account for 17 days as of Tuesday. He followed up with another post stating, "A mutual acquaintance contacted me and mentioned that Elon feels unfairly targeted by my remarks and wishes to have a meeting. I declined the invitation. However, 2 days later, I found myself locked out of 'X'."
In the past, Galloway has consistently criticized Elon Musk following his assumption of control over Twitter. He previously told the Huffington Post that Musk exhibited a "complete absence of tact" in his leadership role at Twitter. Galloway added that, in his view, Musk displayed tendencies of having a "God complex." In a separate Threads post on Monday, Galloway seemed to express that he would have supported Musk if not for his outspoken views on Twitter. Galloway remarked, "Elon could have been seen as a visionary figure if he hadn't begun tweeting."
Galloway also commented on a Reuters investigation into the driving range of Tesla vehicles, taking a jab at Musk's goal to transform Twitter into an all-encompassing application. Galloway's tweet read, "Tesla deliberately provided drivers with overly optimistic driving range estimates, resulting in many getting stranded. However, you should definitely do your banking with 'X'." Musk responded on Twitter, labeling Galloway an "intolerable fool" and suggesting that going against Galloway's advice would be the wisest investment choice.
Musk, who claims to be a strong advocate of "free speech," has a history of taking action against individuals who criticize him. He was recently observed slowing down the access speed to news outlets and competing platforms on his social media site. Notably, The New York Times and Reuters experienced around a 10-second delay when opening links through Twitter, and similar effects were noted for Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky.
Interestingly, Galloway appears to be following Musk's lead by challenging him to a confrontation in another Threads post. Galloway humorously wrote, "Dear Elon, After declining to yield (meet), you banished me from the Twitter realm—an accurate account. I hereby request a trial by combat! Don King has consented to host a showdown to the death before a Taylor Swift concert. Should you agree, I will undergo an MRI to reveal bone spurs. Freedom of speech!"
Unusually, Musk has refrained from responding so far. He has not yet addressed the claims of banning Galloway from Twitter, nor has he confirmed whether he attempted to arrange a meeting with Galloway. Twitter has not immediately responded to Gizmodo's request for comment.
